Election of Directors

We are looking to elect 3 Directors to fill three vacancies on the Board.  Any member of Green Burial Ottawa Valley who is 18 years of age or over, and who is a resident of Ontario, can be nominated for election.  You can nominate yourself or someone else to stand for election.

Deadline for nominations is midnight December 14, 2022.
Nominations will not be accepted at the meeting.

Being a Director

Theoretically, Directors of a corporation are responsible for setting policy and making decisions, and staff is responsible for day-to-day operation.  But since Green Burial Ottawa Valley (GBOV) doesn’t have staff, the Directors share operational tasks.  We meet every 2 weeks (more or less) over Zoom and in addition we manage finances, keep minutes, and communicate with our members.  We limit our meetings to one hour if at all possible.

Most of our activity for the past several years has involved spreading the word about Green / Natural Burial and why it’s the environmentally responsible choice.  In recent months (summer & fall of 2022) we’ve encountered two opportunities to develop Green Burial Grounds – one near Pembroke and one near Killaloe.  So we’ve been working on planning and negotiations to make these sites operational.

Our current Board of seven includes two people from the Ottawa area and five from Renfrew County and area.  Because we’re so far apart, we meet over Zoom.  We find we work very well together; our discussions are always thoughtful and respectful and we do enjoy getting together to do this important work.
