Write your MPP!!

The government fees to set up and maintain a cemetery in Ontario are astronomical. Much, much higher than other provinces.

In Ontario, in order to set up a new cemetery, you have to have $160,000 in the bank for a Care and Maintenance Fund. And 40% of the cost of each plot must also be deposited in that fund. These fees are preventing community groups from establishing new Green Burial Grounds in the province.

The provincial Natural Burial Association is working to make cemetery fees an issue in the June 2 provincial election; and is asking supporters to write their MPP to raise the issue with them and with other candidates in the election.

Looking for Land

GBOV is looking for land to establish a natural burial ground. We are looking for at least an acre or 2 in Eastern Ontario that will be accessible year-round. Ideally, it should consist of some wooded and some open space. We would especially like to find an old cemetery that has been taken over by a municipality.  Please contact us if you know of land that might suit.
